Mayor Ivy tells inaugural ceremony of 6km road project in city

Narayanganj city Mayor and Awami League leader Selina Hayat Ivy yesterday said she had been insulted for being vocal against killings and extortions in Narayanganj.
Pointing her finger at the party lawmaker Shamim Osman, she made the remarks at the inaugural ceremony of the project of a 6km road, 100 feet in width, between Madanganj and Nabiganj bus stand in the city.
Shamim Osman launched into a diatribe against the city mayor during a television talk show Tuesday, which invited them to discuss the murders of seven people in Narayanganj in late April. Ivy implicated Osman in the seven murders and called him a "godfather", or mob boss, in the chat show.
At the inaugural ceremony, Ivy said she would never leave her party. "I'll continue my protest against extortions and crimes, remaining with Awami League."
She said, “Ajmeri Osman [nephew of Shamim] killed 18 persons at this age, and I must speak out against the killings. And for that, if I am killed, I will embrace it.”
Ivy said transparency was maintained in the biddings at Narayanganj City Corporation, and that she never intervened in the process.
The mayor said Osman controlled all the government works, including at Local Government Engineering Department (LGED) and Public Works Department, and his men got all government development works. None from the outside is allowed to file bids there, she said.
