Hindu house, temple vandalised
Criminals vandalised the house of a Hindu family and a temple at Suktagor village of Rajapur upazila under the district yesterday morning.
The criminals also burnt the cow-shed and a haystack of the victim, Montu Biswas.
The incident occurred as a sequel to land dispute between the families of Montu Biswas and Siddik of the village, said Nazrul Islam, officer in charge of Rajapur police Station.
"In the morning, Siddik, a supporter of Jubo League, gave us death threat. Then he and his men started dogging the land beside our house. As we came forward to protect our land, a quarrel started and my mother Monju Rani and brother Rintu Biswas were injured," said Montu's son Uttom Biswas.
Monju and Rintu were admitted to Rajapur Health Complex.
Meanwhile, as Montu and Siddik were quarrelling, miscreants torched Montu's cow-shed and straw stack and vandalised the temple.
"We are passing days amid panic as Siddik threatens us often,” said Uttom.
"Neither Uttom nor locals could say who vandalised the temple and set fire to the cow-shed and straw," Md Mohidul Islam, additional superintendent of police of Jhalakathi, said after visiting the place.
Meanwhile, police arrested Siddik and his assistant Rimon and process was on to file a case in connection with the incident.
