Hectic campaign in two Chuadanga upazilas
Candidates are moving door to door to voters in Chuadanga Sadar and Alamdanga upazilas of the district as election to the two upazila parishads will be held on March 31.
The candidates along with their campaigners are holding meetings at different places and distributing leaflets, containing pledges for development of their respective upazilas.
Eight candidates will vie for the post of chairman, four for vice chairman and three for woman vice chairman posts in Sadar upazila, district election office sources said.
The chairman candidates are Mr Asadul Haque Biswas (AL), Mozibul Haque Malik Moju (BNP],M.M. Shajahan Mukul[BNP- rebel], M. Janeral Islam [BNP- rebel],Sharufuzzaman Shejar[BNP-rebel ),Abu bakkar Siddique (BNP-rebel), Mahmudur Rhaman paltu (BNP-rebel) and Mamun –ur- Rashid Angur [independent].
The vice chairman candidate are Azizul Haque Hazrat (AL),Mafizur Rahman (BNP), Saydur Rashid Jhantu (BNP- rebel)and Abdur Rawf (Jamaat).
The woman vice chairmen contender in the upazila are Kahinur Begum (AL), Momotaz Begum (BNP) and Jahanara Parvin (BNP-rebel).
As many as 2, 10, 889 voters are expected to cast their votes through 85 poling centers. BNP -backed candidates are in trouble with their rebels in the upazila.
In Alamdanga upazila, four candidates are in the race for the post of chairman, seven for vice-chairman and five for woman vice-chairman posts.
The Chairman candidates Mr Helal Uddin (AL), Shahidul Kownain Tilu (BNP), Sanwar Hossain (BNP-rebel) and Nur Muhammad Husain (Jamaat).
Those contesting for the vice-chairman post are Khaledur Rahaman (AL), Emdadul Haque (BNP), Mizanur Rahman (BNP- rebel), Jahangir Alam (BNP-rebel),Mahabub Hossain (BNP- rebel), Ahammad Jalal(Jamaat) and Golam Mostofa ([independent).
The woman vice Chairman candidates are are Shamim Ara (AL) , Parula Khatun Rabeya (BNP), Papiya Islam (BNP-rebel), Hafiza Khatun (Jamaat) and Samshad Banu (independent)
A total of 2, 40, 250 voters are expected to exercise their right to franchise through 103 polling stations.
Jahangir Hossain, district election officer, said necessary measures are taken to hold a free, fair and credible elections in the two upazilas on March 31.
