Health ministry, PSC get new secretaries

The government today appointed new secretaries to the health ministry and Public Service Commission (PSC) three days after two secretaries resigned over their fake fighter certificates.
Shipping Secretary Syed Monjurul Islam has been made health secretary while additional secretary to the public administration ministry Shahjahan Ali Molla has been appointed as acting PSC secretary, according to gazette notifications.
MM Neaz Uddin Miah, who was health secretary, and AKM Amir Hossain, who was PSC secretary, whose war hero's certificates were found fake and were already revoked, tendered their resignations on Thursday.
Rector of BCS Administration Academy Shafiq Alam Mehedi replaced Monjurul Islam as shipping secretary while additional secretary to the education ministry Md Sohrab Hossain has been made Rector of BCS Administration Academy with the status of an acting secretary.
Additional secretary to the roads transport and bridges ministry Farid Uddin Ahmed Chowdhury got the status of acting secretary to the jute and textiles ministry.
On October 13, the public administration ministry served show-cause notices to Neaz and Amir asking why departmental actions would not be taken against them for their alleged cheating. Responding to the letters, they claimed they were indeed war heroes.
The Anti-Corruption Commission found that they had unfairly obtained the certificates, bypassing relevant laws.
The anti-graft body recommended that the government take action for their misconduct.
