Hasina relinquishes Rangpur-6 seat
Awami League President Sheikh Hasina has relinquished her parliament membership for Rangpur-6 constituency of the 10th parliament.
Hasina, also the prime minister, was elected from two constituencies--Gopalganj-3 and Rangpur-6 in January 5 polls.
The AL chief has already sent a letter to the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) requesting him to take necessary steps in this regard.
On behalf of the party chief, ABM Reazul Kabir Kawsar, assistant secretary of Awami League central sub-committee, carried the letter to the CEC this evening.
Hasina, however, will keep her parliament membership for Gopoalganj-3 constituency.
“In the 10th parliamentary election, I contested and won from two constituencies-- Gopalganj-3 and Rangpur-6. I have decided to relinquish my parliament membership for Rangpur-6 and I want to serve the people of Gopalganj-3 constituency,” Hasina said in the letter.
The Election Commission (EC) will officially announce the Rangpur-6 constituency vacant soon and will announce schedule for a by-polls there.
