Authority investigating if any minister, MP had links with ‘Golden Monir’: Quader
Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader today said a competent authority is now investigating whether any incumbent minister or any ruling party lawmaker had links with Monir Hossain, widely known as "Golden Monir".
Quader was replying to a query while speaking at a press conference on contemporary issues at his secretariat office.
Monir Hossain, who was arrested on Sunday, amassed considerable wealth and property in collusion with some officials of Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha and the housing and public works ministry.
Investigators said his rise began in 2001. By 2006, he had become a big player in Badda's DIT project with the blessings of an influential minister of the then BNP-led government and then Rajuk Chairman Abdur Rahman, grabbing many plots meant for low-income people.
Quader also said that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has directed the Anti-Corruption Commission to probe into the allegation that more government officials are purchasing luxurious homes in Toronto, Canada.
The ACC has already asked the government to provide a list of its officials who own homes in "Begum Para".
JAMALPUR MP TO TAKE OATH AS STATE MINISTER FOR RELIGIOUS AFFAIRS
Faridul Haque Khan, a ruling party lawmaker from Jamalpur, is going to take oath as state minister for religious affairs today, Quader said at the press conference.
The post fell vacant after the death of the then state minister Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah in June.
