Gayeshwar gets bail
The High Court yesterday granted bail to BNP standing committee member Gayeshwar Chandra Roy for six months in a case filed for killing a Shibir activist.
Police filed the case after Shibir activist Mansur Pradhania, 20, was killed in a clash between law enforcers and the activists of Jamaat-e-Islami and Islami Chhatra Shibir at Malibagh last December 29.
After hearing a bail petition, the HC also issued a rule upon the government to explain why the BNP leader should not be granted regular bail in the case.
Now there is no legal bar to free Gayeshwar, said his lawyer Nitai Roy Chowdhury.
Earlier on April 29, a judge of another HC bench felt embarrass to hear the petition of Gayeshwar. He was sent to jail on surrender before a court on April 20.
