Gaibandha protesters for death penalty to killers
Hundreds of people defying rain brought out a protest procession, demanding capital punishment to the killers of abducted kid Shuvo and paraded the main roads of Sunderganj upazila yesterday.
Police recovered the decomposed body of the five-year-old child from under the water hyacinth at a pond at Balapara in the municipal area on Wednesday and sent it to Gaibandha Hospital for autopsy.
Police said, on Monday evening a gang abducted Shuvo Mia, son of Ashek Ali Master, of Balapara village in the municipality and took the boy to an unknown place.
Later the abductors demanded Taka 15 lakh ransom from Ashek Ali, the father of the boy over cell phone and threatened to kill his son, if he failed to pay the money.
Ashek, however, informed the matter to police and police laid a trap. As per instruction, Ashek agreed to pay ransom and asked the abductors to collect the money from his house.
Accordingly, on Wednesday, the gang came to the house of Ashek Ali which was cordoned by police. They arrested nine people from the spot. The arrestees are Ripon Kumar Shaha, Kabir Hossain, Harun Mia, Mostafiser Rahman, Majedul Islam Robin, Sumon Mia, Lablu Mia, Mrinal Chandra and Milton Khandker.
On interrogation, the arrestees confessed to kidnapping and killing Shuvo. Later as per their confession, a police team recovered the body of the boy from under the water hyacinth of a pond on Wednesday night.
