Pearls have traditionally held the supreme position in royal households. Because of their scarcity, elegance and timelessness, they were coveted treasures. With their increasing popularity in Bangladesh, numerous pearl houses have mushroomed in Dhaka city. Pearl Oasis Jewellers is one such house that specialises in offering freshwater pearls.
Co-owned by two brothers, Joy Dev Saha and Subrata Saha Kumar, the shop opened its doors to a niche segment of customers in 2002. The demand for pearls, pink pearls in particular, among the local women led the brothers to venture into this business.
A highlight of this shop is the collection of jewellery combining pearls with either diamonds or precious stones, such as ruby, sapphire, and emerald. Apart from pearls, the shop offers its patrons a wide array of 'Jarwa', bridal, antique, pure gold, diamond, and precious and semi-precious stones jewellery.
Joy Dev Saha hand-picks designs, although orders are accepted regularly. The bridal collection consists of heavy 'kundan' jewellery as well as simpler ones for other occasions. Their trademark is the incorporation of asymmetrical shapes into all of their designs.
Pearl Oasis Jewellers offers a varied collection of Chokers, chandelier earrings, 'jhumkas,' tiaras, and large pearl necklaces under one big roof. If there is one thing that differentiates Pearl Oasis Jewellers from its competitors, it is undoubtedly the selection of designs.
Freshwater pearls used here are either imported from China or manufactured locally. A handful of pearls also arrive from India. Fifty per cent of gold used here are scrap gold, i.e. gold sold by customers. Pearl Oasis Jewellers lays special emphasis on the upcoming Pohela Boishakh and promises to surprise its customers with newer collections and discounts depending on the total cost.
The price of gift items start from Tk.15000. Earrings will cost you anywhere between Tk. 10000 and Tk. 2 lacs. Bangles are priced at Tk.15000 – 1 lac. The price of rings starts from Tk. 10000 and can reach up to Tk. 40000. The shop's bridal collection is priced between Tk. 3 lacs and 10 lacs. Lower price categories are also available. One range falls between Tk. 50000 and 600000. The other range will cost you Tk. 1 – 1.5 lacs.
