For College Freshers
College is the time to try new things. But you need to have a clear idea of what you should be doing once you are there. These five tips will help freshers make the best of college.
Go to Class
This might seem obvious but once you are in college, the excess workload and night out with friends might wear you out enough to skip class the next day. DON'T do that. If you wish to maintain your GPA, make sure you attend most classes if not all.
Join a Club or a Fraternity
There's no better way to make friends, build a social network and attend social events of your choice than joining a club of your interest. If you are not the social type, remember that being a member of a club or fraternity will look great in your future resume.
Have Fun but Be Careful
College will probably be the only time when you can legitimately get away by being a bit silly and crazy. But don't let things get out of hand. Do adventurous things, and bond with your new friends but don't do anything that might hamper your life, self-image or health.
Get Organised
Know what you can handle in terms of courses. It's better to take fewer courses if you don't think you can handle the pressure. Also remember, unlike in school, college professors just post the assignments and expect you to give it in time. So, be prepared.
Get to Know your Academic Adviser
This person will help you with adding or dropping courses, scheduling classes, deciding on majors and minors, and mostly everything academic related. If you find it difficult to communicate with your adviser assigned to you, you can always request for another one.
