Fond Orange memories
The manner in which the Netherlands fought against South Africa and competed against New Zealand, there was an eerie feeling of a win around the corner for the Dutch; a task they eventually accomplished in their last game. While the Dutch will no doubt celebrate their crushing 47-run victory, they will, however, also have questions regarding the future of their cricket.
As captain Peter Borren, following their historical win yesterday, pointed out, they don't have a single fixture ready for this summer.
"Until now we don't know when our next match is. We have nothing this summer, not one fixture. This will be a nice way to finish I suppose, but hopefully something will get sorted out. We are very proud of our efforts here.
Proud of the way his team performed yesterday, Borren believed that the men in Orange have set a legacy and can now leave with 'fond memories'.
"We have got fond memories throughout the tournament all the way from Sylhet. To come here and then being sent straight back down to the ground and the crushing feeling we had when we failed to chase against South Africa .
"I was thinking if we don't win this game, people say you competed with South Africa and New Zealand, well done, but that's not a great feeling," explained an emotional Borren, adding that the win against England yesterday was far more satisfying than the one back in Lord's, in 2009.
England coach Ashley Giles, on the other hand, criticised his players for being 'complacent' and described the defeat as 'embarrassing'.
"We wanted to leave here with a win, it's been a difficult winter and we will look to rebuild, the sun will still come up tomorrow, but when you have days like that in the office, there's not much you can say except that it was unacceptable and embarrassing," said Giles.
"There is a lot of emotions, of course we are angry, we are human beings, with that kind of performance you have to be angry. I apologise to the fans who have travelled all the way here and to those watching at home. Credit to the Dutch, they were good tonight," he added.
