Neymar cursed me a lot, says ‘sad’ Thiago Silva

Thiago Silva revealed that Neymar "cursed" at him a lot late in the game during Brazil's 2-0 win against Costa Rica at the World Cup on Friday.

Brazil and their star forward Neymar found it difficult to break down a staunch Costa Rica defence and tensions were running high within the Brazil fans before Philippe Coutinho broke the deadlock in stoppage-time. Neymar added a second to see Brazil win 2-0 but it was an emotionally charged game for the Brazil international and he broke down in tears following the game.

The stress was beginning to tell and Brazil kept looking for a goal. For Neymar, it was certainly not the time for ‘fair play’.

Silva said his Paris Saint-Germain teammate had harsh words for him after he kicked the ball back to Costa Rica in the 83rd minute. After the referee stopped play to attend to a Costa Rica player, Thiago Silva sportingly kicked the ball back to Brazil's opponents. Many Brazil fans booed the team captain for his action.

“I have him as a younger brother, and I try to look after him, giving him advice,” said Silva. “Today I was really sad with him. When I gave the ball back, he cursed me a lot.

“But I think he was right, because I think they were slowing up the game. I gave the ball back because it wasn't going to be that ball that would make us win. I feel relaxed for what I did and was very sad with his cursing.”

Silva, who captained the side during the match also explained why Neymar cried after the match.

“It's normal that Neymar needs to let off steam," the defender said. “He carried a heavy weight.

“He'll now be a lot more relaxed for the third game,” he concluded.
