Fake medical centre sealed off in capital
A mobile court yesterday sealed off a fake medical centre in the capital's Banani, and sentenced its owner and manager to six-month jail terms each for providing fake fitness certificates to overseas jobseekers.
Star Cure Medical Centre owner Abul Bashar and its manager Mohammad Moniruzzaman were also fined Tk 2.05 lakh and Tk 2 lakh respectively, said Executive Magistrate AHM
Anwar Pasha, who led the drive.
The court, backed by Rapid Action Battalion-1, also fined three employees of the centre -- Mahfuza Islam Renu, Runa Khanam, and Khadiza.
Based on allegations received from several overseas jobseekers, who were sent back home on the grounds that their fitness certificates were fake, the Rab team conducted the drive in the centre, said Rab officials.
During the drive, manager Moniruzzaman was caught red-handed while preparing three fake medical certificates.
The mobile court found no doctor in the centre although it is mandatory, said the magistrate.
Bashar confessed that sometimes he and his manager issued prescriptions to patients posing as doctors, he added.
