EU team to visit Dhaka to weigh post-poll situation
A four-member delegation of the European Union Parliament will visit Bangladesh at the end of the month to assess the situation after the January 5 general polls and see the progress made so far to improve safety of workers in the RMG industry.
Jean Lambert, chair of the European Parliament Delegation to South Asia, will lead the delegation that will arrive in Dhaka on March 24, also the first anniversary of the collapse of Rana Plaza that left over 1,100 people dead.
The diplomatic circle in Dhaka is stressing the importance of the visit of the delegation, which covers six countries -- Bangladesh, Bhutan, Sri Lanka, the Maldives, Nepal and Pakistan --, as it will assess issues like workers' safety and rights, post-election political situation and extra judicial killings.
The delegation during its two-day visit will meet political leaders, high government officials, workers and civil society representatives.
