304 birds rescued in Savar

A total of 304 local birds of different species were seized in Kabirpur of Savar today.

On information, a team of Wildlife Crime Control Unit of Bangladesh Forest Department seized the birds conducting a drive in Pagla Bazar area this morning, said Wildlife Inspector Ashim Mallick.

The birds include 5 Ringneck Parakeet (Psittacula Krameri), Vernal Hanging Parrot (Loriculus Vernalis), 181 Tricoloured Munia (Lonchura Malacca), 82 Spotted Dove (Spilopelia Chinensis) and a Brahminy Kite (Haliastur Indus).

Later, the birds were released into Botanical Garden in Dhaka's Mirpur.

According to the Wildlife Act 2012, poaching, capturing, trapping and trading of wildlife is a punishable offence, said a press release.
