Pilot project from Dec 17 for sound-pollution-free Dhaka
A pilot project to make Dhaka city free from sound-pollution will begin from 17th December, Environment, Forest and Climate Change Minister Md Shahab Uddin said today.
As part of the project, the surrounding areas of the Secretariat, Zero Point, Paltan, Kadam Foara, Shikkha Bhaban will be announced as silent zone, the minister said.
He came up with the announcement while talking to the journalists at his ministry office this afternoon, according to a press release of the ministry.
The minister, in the press release said the decision is an outcome of an inter-ministerial meeting to take appropriate measures in a bid to to prevent air and sound pollution in Dhaka.
Effective measures will be taken to stop the usage of hydraulic horns in order to control sound pollution, the minister said.
The authority will also trace the sources of the unwanted and unnecessary sounds in the capital to make the effort a success, he added.
