Tiger found dead in Sundarbans canal
The Forest Department has recovered the carcass of a tiger floating in the Sundarbans canal.
The body was recovered from the Rupar canal adjacent to Dublar Char in the Sharankhola Range of the Eastern Sundarbans this afternoon, reports our Bagerhat correspondent.
According to the forest department in Bagerhat, the dead tiger is estimated to be 15 to 16 years old. There were no signs of injuries on the tiger's body. It is presumed that the tiger may have died of old age. An autopsy will be conducted tomorrow morning at the Sharankhola Range Office area, said the forest department.
Mohammad Belayet Hossain, divisional forest officer (DFO) of the Sundarbans East Forest Department, said forest rangers saw the tiger's body floating in the Rupar Khal area and recovered it.
The tiger's body will be brought to the Sharankhola Range Office tomorow morning, he said, adding an autopsy will be conducted to find out the exact cause of the death.
