An injured Binturong, also known as a bearcat, was found injured behind a local hospital in Khagrachari district this morning. It is now being treated at the Chattogram Veterinary Hospital.
The animal was found behind the Lakkhichari Upazila Health Complex with injury marks all over its body, especially near the mouth, our Chattogram correspondent reports quoting Divisional Forest Officer (DFO Wildlife) Abu Naser Mohammad Yasin Newaj.
A boatman of the Bangladesh Forest Department (BFD) found the Binturong, listed as Critically Endangered on the IUCN redlist, lying in the backyard of the health complex this morning.
Locals informed the boatman that the bearcat had been fighting some dogs all night and was both injured and exhausted.
The DFO said the animal could have been treated when it was found in the morning as it was critically injured.
