Electricity supply returned to parts of Sunamganj town this afternoon, four days after power lines were cut off all over the district on Thursday following heavy flood caused by upstream water and heavy rainfall.

Md Mashiur Rahman, executive engineer of the Power Development Board in Sunamganj, confirmed the development to our Sylhet correspondent.

For all latest news, follow The Daily Star's Google News channel.

The engineer said the power supply in half the areas of the district town was restored this afternoon.

Besides, electricity was restored in the Office of the Deputy Commissioner of Sunamganj, circuit house, central jail, hospital, various public and private offices, and other important installations, he said.

Mashiur Rahman said, "Our electricity sub-station has not been flooded. But as the entire town was flooded, the electricity had to be cut off for security reasons. "

"After the water receded in different parts of the town, we checked the power lines and turned on the electricity. Hopefully, electricity will be restored in the rest of the area soon, "he added.
