Zach Braff confirmed for ‘Scrubs’ reboot at ABC

Zach Braff is set to return as JD in a "Scrubs" reboot, currently in development at ABC. The revival, executive produced by original creator Bill Lawrence, marks a long-awaited comeback to Sacred Heart Hospital.
Talks of reviving "Scrubs" have long been circulating among fans and cast members. However, development could only begin after resolving rights and production logistics between Disney, which owns the "Scrubs" intellectual property, and Warner Bros Television, where Lawrence holds an overall production deal. Lawrence, is helping shepherd the new project at Disney-owned 20th Television.
Originally premiering in 2001 on NBC, "Scrubs" ran for seven seasons on the network before moving to ABC for its eighth and final season- though ABC later produced a ninth season titled "Scrubs: Med School".
The beloved medical comedy originally starred Braff alongside John C McGinley, Donald Faison, Judy Reyes, Sarah Chalke, Ken Jenkins, and Neil Flynn. Known for its unique single-camera style, fantasy cutaways, and heartfelt narration by JD, the series remains a fan favourite for its blend of humour and emotional depth.
While Braff is the only cast member currently confirmed for the reboot, his enthusiasm is clear. In a recent Variety interview celebrating the 20th anniversary of his film "Garden State", Braff said, "The idea of getting back together with my friends and doing like 10 or 12 episodes of maybe one or two seasons, and just laughing with everyone? That sounds like a dream."
Further details, including a showrunner and additional cast announcements, are yet to be revealed.
