‘Hawa’ has given me a new identity: Nazifa Tushi
"Hawa" famed actress, Nazifa Tushi garnered much appreciation for her performance in the film among the masses. The next-gen star is currently busy promoting her film, which is running successfully in theatres.
The Daily Star caught up with Tushi to learn about her journey and future plans.
"Hawa" has completed a month in the theatres. Tell us your feeling about this achievement?
"Hawa" has managed to keep the audience's interest for over a month, and that's my biggest achievement as an artiste. The film is now being released in 117 theatres across the US and Canada, with show tickets for the first 10 days already sold out. Not just in Bangladesh, "Hawa" is gaining strong ground internationally.
This success has inspired many aspiring and prominent filmmakers to come up with their own unique scripts and storytelling styles. Even producers are now optimistic, and are looking to invest more in productions. I believe, if one is honest and hardworking, nothing can stop their success.
Considering the previous scenario in the film industry, I am happy that we were able to alter the course with our effort.
Would you say "Hawa" was a turning point in your career?
I don't believe in such an idea. Only fate knows about the future and can assure my success. However, I won't deny that "Hawa" has brought me immense fame, and I hope to keep walking down this road in the future.
You and your co-artistes have invested a lot of effort in promoting "Hawa". This is not something we often come across in the industry.
One cannot make a film and watch it alone in a closed room. Cinema is for everyone.
Promotions are essential if one looks to inform the masses about their creations. For instance, how will someone know that you are a good cook, if they haven't tasted your food—the case is the same for any creator. If the masses are not aware of your existence, then you can't blame them for being unsupportive!
You must have many other projects in your hand at the moment. Could you tell us what we can expect from you in the future?
I am receiving a lot of offers, however, I will take some time to evaluate the scripts and roles being offered to me, before I jump on board. I had never expected that "Hawa" would receive such an enormous response. I just want to enjoy the success of this film for the time being, before I start something new.
The audience really enjoyed your performance in "Hawa". How do you feel about their love for your character in the film?
I cannot judge my own performance and success. The audience, critics and most importantly, journalists like you, will be the ones who can make such comments.
Nevertheless, "Hawa' has given me a new identity, in my character Gulti, what more could an actor ask for?
Has your family been supportive of your journey so far?
My family never set any restrictions on my career, and they have always supported me. They are proud of me and my achievements, and I dedicate my success to them. My elders had a cultural mindset and they appreciated my inclination towards dance. They were supportive then and are the same now.
As a woman, did you find yourself facing a lot more challenges when climbing the ladder in showbiz?
Of course, I did! However, women are more independent now and are reaching new heights in their careers, through their intelligence and effort. The main success mantra for me is—discard negative thoughts and your inferiority complex, and success will become your best friend.
