Tom Cruise praises Christopher Nolan’s ‘The Odyssey’ after IMAX screening
Hollywood star Tom Cruise has joined the growing list of admirers of Christopher Nolan’s “The Odyssey”, praising the filmmaker’s latest epic after attending an early IMAX screening.
On Thursday, Cruise took to social media to share his reaction, posting a photo of himself holding a ticket outside an IMAX 70mm theatre and thanking Nolan, producer Emma Thomas, and the film’s cast and crew.
“Wow! To Chris, Emma, and ALL of your brilliant cast and crew. Thank you for an amazing night in a movie theater. I can’t wait to see it again!” Cruise wrote.
His enthusiastic endorsement quickly sparked reactions online, with fans celebrating the actor’s praise. One user wrote, “When a movie makes someone want to walk right back into the theatre immediately after leaving, that’s the only review that actually matters.” Another commented, “When the man who literally jumps off cliffs for real entertainment tells you to watch a movie, you just book the tickets.”
Cruise’s review comes as “The Odyssey” continues to receive widespread acclaim from critics. The film currently holds a 96% critics’ score on Rotten Tomatoes, while early box office projections suggest it could earn between $85 million and $95 million during its opening weekend in North America. If achieved, it would surpass the $82.7 million domestic debut of Nolan’s Oscar-winning “Oppenheimer”.
Written and directed by Nolan, “The Odyssey” is an epic fantasy inspired by Homer’s ancient Greek poem. The film stars Matt Damon as Odysseus, alongside Tom Holland as Telemachus, Anne Hathaway as Penelope, Robert Pattinson as Antinous, and Charlize Theron as Calypso. The ensemble cast also includes Lupita Nyong’o, Zendaya, Jon Bernthal, Himesh Patel, John Leguizamo, and Mia Goth.
The story follows Odysseus on his perilous decade-long journey home to Ithaca after the Trojan War, blending mythological adventure with the emotional story of his reunion with Penelope.
The film marks Nolan’s first feature since “Oppenheimer”, which won seven Academy Awards, including Best Picture. “The Odyssey” opens in theatres on July 17 and has also been cleared for release in India with an “A” certificate.
