BSA reschedules Runa Laila tribute programme with flood relief initiative
A special event to honour legendary singer Runa Laila, originally scheduled to be held tomorrow (July 18) at Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (BSA) in the capital, was postponed due to the country's ongoing flood situation.
BSA has finally confirmed the official date of the event and has stated that the programme will take place on July 24.
BSA has also announced that, alongside presenting the honour to Runa Laila, the event will launch a fund to support people affected by the floods. Organisers hope the initiative will encourage members of the cultural community and well-wishers to contribute to relief efforts for flood victims.
The programme will kick off at 6.30pm at the National Theatre Hall auditorium of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy.
The event will be attended by Minister for Cultural Affairs Nitai Roy Chowdhury as the chief guest. Special guests will include State Minister for Cultural Affairs Ali Newaz Mahmood Khyom and Adviser to the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting Zahed Ur Rahman.
The programme will be chaired by Kaniz Mowla, Secretary of the Ministry of Cultural Affairs, while the welcome address will be delivered by poet Sheikh Rezauddin Ahmed (Rezauddin Stalin), Director General of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy.
Under the patronage of the Ministry of Cultural Affairs and the management of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy, a series of tribute events and solo musical performances honouring the country's distinguished artistes has been organised since last year.
The initiative began in September last year with a programme honouring celebrated singer Sabina Yasmin. Most recently, veteran singer Syed Abdul Hadi was honoured in June.
