Cinema halls to reopen after 18 months
Ever since the coronavirus pandemic, cinema halls have remained shut down due to lockdown. Meanwhile, the producers were also in a dilemma as they wanted to keep away from the risk of releasing new productions. Thus, new releases were at a halt.
After about a year and a half, producers and directors are now looking to release their new productions on the silver screen. The month of October has come upon the film industry as a blessing as the highest number of films are going to be released this month.
The Anonno Mamun directorial film "Koshai" will be released next month. The production will feature Nirab Hossain, Rashed Mamunur Rahman Apu, and Qazi Nawshaba, among others.
Another film "Chokh", directed by Asif Iqbal Jewel, starring Shobnom Bubly, Nirab Hossain, and Ziaul Roshan is also set to release on October 1, in two halls.
Modhumita cinema hall is ready to reopen after two years with the premiere of Kolkata film "Baazi", directed by Anshuman Pratyush. The film features Jeet Ganguly and Mimi Chakraborty. The shows for this release will begin on October 8.
"I have been repeatedly saying that Modhumita will remain closed until we get good quality films," said Iftekhar Uddin Nawshad, the owner of Modhumita cinema hall. "This time, we have decided to bring 'Baazi' from Kolkata. We will reconsider our future choices if the audience does not welcome the film."
Rashid Palash's "Padmapuran" is waiting on the list of new releases too. The film depicts the lives of people living near the Padma river.
"Chandrabati Kotha" is finally set to make it to the big screen in the same month. The film is directed by N Rashed Chowdhury. Based on Mymensing's lyrical poet Nayanchand Ghosh's "Chandrabati Pala", it is a biography on the life of the first Bengali female poet Chandrabati.
"The cinema hall business is still in a critical condition," said Mia Alauddin, senior vice-president of Film Exhibitors' Association. "Nevertheless, a good number of films will be released next month, including Indian (Kolkata-based) productions. If the new releases don't do well, we have to formulate new strategies to keep our business going."
