‘Asaduzzaman Noor was the perfect Baker Bhai’
Celebrated artistes and Members of Parliament Suborna Mustafa and Asaduzzaman Noor have worked together on many tele-fictions. They have appeared in many projects of the 90s, known as the golden period of television.
While Noor played Baker Bhai in Humayun Ahmed's "Kothao Keu Nei", Suborna portrayed Muna. The two characters are beloved even today.
Marking Noor's 75th birthday, Suborna shares her memories of working with him.
Honestly, we never thought 'Kothao Keu Nei' would be so well-received. In fact, after so many years, it is still popular. At the time, we were only concerned about giving our best as actors.
After the show went on air, the character of Baker Bhai, won over the audience quite quickly. No one other than Noor bhai could have played this part. He was the perfect Baker Bhai.
There are three moments that I still remember from the shoot. One of them is a scene where Muna gets emotional after Mamun gets married to someone else, she says to Baker Bhai that I should have fallen in love with you.
The second memory is relatable to audiences as well. After Baker Bhai's death sentence was announced by the court he was sent to jail. Muna went to jail to meet him and took a packet of cigarettes for him. That scene was difficult. I held his hand and tried to console him.
At that time, the country was really excited to know about the consequences Baker Bhai will face.
There was another scene where my character served food to Baker Bhai, while he ate in peace. That scene is also close to my heart.
It is a known fact that Noor bhai is an immensely talented actor. But I will say he is a versatile actor. Such actors are very rare to come by. Be it the stage, television, or big screen, he has been successful in every medium. He is blessed with many talents. In fact, he is a great writer as well. He wrote many stories for theatre.
He loves literature. If he had he explored this field, we would have definitely gotten something from him.
Nur bhai is one of my most favourite people. I wish him a happy birthday. I am blessed to have worked with him on so many iconic projects that are a part of history, and continue to receive the audiences' love.
