England hit back
England bounced back from their opening match defeat in style when they beat an out-of-sorts India by five wickets in their Group B match of the Women's World Twenty20 here yesterday.
The 2009 champions, who had lost against West Indies in their opening match, defeated India to a paltry score of 95 as right-arm medium pacers Anya Shrubsole and Jenny Gunn shared six wickets between themselves conceding only 22 runs. That India got to the score of 95 owed a great deal to the lone-hand played by their skipper Mithali Raj (57) who smashed eight boundaries in her 56-ball innings.
England comfortably chased down the target with eleven balls to spare.
SCORES IN BRIEF
INDIA: 95 for 9 (Mithali 57, Naidu 11; Shrubsole 3-7, Gunn 3-15)
ENGLAND: 98 for 5 in 18.1 overs (Taylor 28, Greenway 26; Dabir 2-21)
Result: England won by 5 wickets.
