EC to take tighter security measures
The Election Commission (EC) has planned to take extensive security measures for holding elections in eight constituencies smoothly on January 16.
The elections will be held at Dinajpur-4, Kirigram-4, Gaibandha-1, 3, 4, Bogra-7, Jessore-5 and Laxmipur-1 constituencies as voting in 392 polling centres were postponed due to violence on the January 5 general poll.
The volume of law enforcers and army to be deployed during the elections will be finalised in a law and order meeting scheduled to be held tomorrow.
In the meeting, the EC will propose to deploy 25-member team of police and Ansar at every polling centre for four days, while 14 to18 police and Ansar members were deployed on January 5 poll.
Besides, the EC wants to deploy over 2,100 Rab and BGB personnel at eight constituencies.
However, the commission will not place any proposal on the number of army as the officials say the Armed Force Division in consultation with the returning officers will finalise it.
