Dr Ahmed Sharif fought fundamentalism

Throughout his life, Prof Ahmed Sharif wrote and spoke strongly against fundamentalism, military rule, and the enemies of liberation to guide the nation, speakers told a memorial discussion yesterday.
Swadesh Chinta Shangha organised the programme marking 15th death anniversary of Dr Sharif, a renowned scholar, researcher and forerunner of the free thinking movement.
A memorial lecture and award giving function was held in the Business Studies Faculty auditorium of Dhaka University.
Columnist Syed Abul Moksud and political analyst Shamsuzzoha Manik were honoured this year.
In the keynote speech, Editor of New Age Nurul Kabir said, "In the times of national crisis, his intellectual activities were often directed towards the public."
His area of interest in writing was Bangladesh, Bangalee society, Bangla language and literature. Ahmed Sharif authored more than 70 books.
