Today is the seventh death anniversary of Language Movement hero Mahbub Ul Alam Chowdhury, who wrote the first poem on Amar Ekushey, “Kandte Ashini, Phashir Dabi Niye Eshechhi”.
He died on this day in 2007 at the age of 80.
He participated in the “Quit India” movement as an activist of the student congress in 1942 and was the convener of Sarbadolio Rastrobhasha Sangram Parishad in Chittagong in 1952.
He was the editor of the prestigious monthly literature magazine "Shimanto" from 1947 to 1952.
Mahbubul Alam was awarded Bangla Academy Fellowship in 1986. The government conferred the Ekushey Padak on him posthumously in 2009.
