UNO injured in mob attack over death of man in Chuadanga

The Upazila Nirbahi Officer of Jibannagar upazila in Chuadanga was injured in a mob attack after a man was crushed to death under a soil-laden tractor in Chuadanga's Jibannagar upazila.

SM Munim Lincoln, the UNO of Jibannagar upazila went to the spot with a police team to calm the mob down after the accident at 12:30pm today, reports our Kushtia correspondent.

According to local sources and our Kushtia correspondent, the mob hurled brickbats at the UNO. The mob also detained the UNO for about an hour until police went to the spot and rescued him, sources said.

Ohidul Biswas, from Maheshpur upazila of Jhenaidah, was crushed to death under a soil-laden tractor when he was riding a bicycle with his son. His son Yasin Ali (8) was injured in the incident and broke his leg, said locals.

After the incident, people confined the tractor and put up barricades on the Jibannagar upazila road.

"After being rescued, the UNO was taken to Jibannagar Upazila Health Complex where he was administered first aid," said Jibannagar Police Station Officer-in-Charge Saiful Islam.

Later, the UNO filed a case against some unknown people for obstruction of government work.

The family of the deceased filed another case against the tractor driver and helper.

The deceased's body was sent to Chuadanga Sadar Hospital. 

The tractor driver and his accomplice managed to flee the scene.
