Siblings transporting yaba under the guise of ‘emergency product’
Detectives today arrested four people of a narcotics syndicate who reserved yaba tablets after smuggling those from Cox's Bazar to Dhaka.
Md Sujon (30), his brother Mosharraf Hossain (40), and their associates Md Ashraf Ali (26) and Jahirul Islam (31), were arrested from the capital's Khilgaon area, Madhusudan Das, assistant commissioner of DB police, confirmed to The Daily Star.
During the drive, a team of Detective Branch of Police seized a truck and recovered 44,000 yaba pills wrapped inside 22 packets from the vehicle, said the police official.
The drugs were being transported under the guise of "emergency product" in the truck, from Chattogram to Dhaka, and were being carried in a special chamber created on the roof of the driving seat, AC Madhusudan said.
Of the arrestees, Jahirul was working as driver and Ashraf the helper in exchange of a huge sum of money.
Sujon, who has long been involved with carrying different emergency products from Cox's Bazar to Dhaka, got involved in yaba smuggling allegedly at least four to five years ago, said the DB official.
Later, Sujon's brother Mosharraf got engaged in the trade.
AC Madhusudan said that the siblings were involved in drug trade for a long time but never got arrested once and remained out of surveillance.
"They have never communicated via phone calls. If any of their dealers mistakenly called directly over the phone, the siblings just discontinued relations," he said.
For the arrest, police needed to track the syndicate for over a month, learn their method of operating and movement, and finally made the arrest, said the DB official.
The syndicate used to collect yaba tablets from Md Selim (28) in Cox's Bazar. During the drive, another member of the syndicate, Md Liakat (35), fled from the scene.
"We are conducting drives to arrest the absconding members of the syndicate," the DB official added.
A case was filed with Khilgaon Police Station regarding the arrest and recovery of pills.
