Probe body formed over Mushtaq’s death in custody
Gazipur district administration has formed a two-member committee over the death of writer Mushtaq Ahmed, who was arrested under the Digital Security Act and died in Kashimpur High Security Jail-3 in Gazipur on Thursday.
SM Tarikul Islam, deputy commissioner of Gazipur, confirmed the development to The Daily Star this morning.
The members of the committee are executive magistrates of the district administration Md Wasiuzzaman and Umme Habiba, our Gazipur correspondent reports quoting the DC.
The committee has been asked to submit the investigation report within two working days, DC Tarikul said.
On May 8 last year, Mushtaq was made accused in a case filed under the Digital Security Act with Ramna Police Station in Dhaka and since then he had been in jail.
Denied bail six times, Mushtaq passed away on Thursday -- first person to die in custody after being arrested under DSA, triggering widespread protests and condemnations.
