PIO arrested for misappropriating over Tk 16 lakh by forging Madhabpur UNO’s signature

The project implementation officer (PIO) of Habiganj's Madhabpur upazila has been arrested on charge of misappropriating Tk 16.68 lakh through forging signature of the local upazila nirbahi officer (UNO).

Mohammad Masudul Islam was arrested in bordering Balla check post area of Chunarughat upazila of the district last night, our Moulvibazar correspondent reports quoting Officer-in-Charge of Madhabpur Police Station Md Abdur Razzak.

Assistant Superintendent of Police (Madhabpur Circle) Mohsin Al Murad said Madhabpur UNO Fatema-Tuz-Zohra lodged the complaint yesterday evening.

She alleged that the PIO embezzled Tk 16.68 lakh from the project titled "Construction of Disaster Resilient Houses" by forging her signature, the ASP said.

The amount of the misappropriated money can be more than what's mentioned, the ASP said, adding that the Anti-Corruption Commission is investigating the matter.

A case will be filed in this connection, the police official said.
