UP member accused of raping Class-6 student in Bagerhat

A union parishad member in Chitalmari upazila of Bagerhat has been accused of raping a Class-6 student by family members of the victim.

Quoting the victim's father, Mohammad Iqram Hossain, inspector (Investigation) of Chitalmari Police Station, said UP member Noni Gopal Biswas raped her when she was alone at home this morning.

Police have already launched an operation to arrest the alleged accused, said the inspector.

Noni Gopal, a ward member of Charbaniari Union Parishad, came to the victim's house around 10:30am today for taking a photocopy of the national identity card and mobile number of her father to provide coronavirus aid from government, the police officer said quoting the victim's father.

When the girl's father and mother went to Chitalmari Sadar Bazar for work, Noni Gopal came again to the house and raped her, Iqram Hossain quoted the father as saying.

The parents came to know of the matter when the child told them of the incident after they returned home, said the inspector.

Inspector Iqram further said "We have collected evidence from the spot. Police have launched an operation to arrest Noni Gopal Biswas."

He said the process of filing a case in this regard is underway.
