Man surrenders to police after killing wife over TikTok posts

A man allegedly killed his wife in Bagerhat yesterday over posting "offensive" photos on TikTok.

The victim, Soma Akhter (19), was a resident of Dashani Uttarpara in Bagerhat town.

Abdullah Al Naeem alias Shanto (23) surrendered at Bagerhat Model Police Station around 8:30pm last night, our local correspondent reports.

After his surrender, police recovered the body and sent it to Bagerhat Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy.

Quoting Shanto, police said Soma had several accounts on social media including TikTok and Likee apps. She used to post pictures from those accounts.

Police said that Shanto came back to Bagerhat from Dhaka and asked Soma to stay home in the afternoon, yesterday.

Bagerhat Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge KM Azizul Islam said, "Shanto is in our custody. He has admitted that he strangled his wife to death. We are investigating whether there is any other issue behind the murder."

The victim's mother Komela Begum filed a murder case with the local police station accusing Shanto later at night.
