Hefajat’s mayhem: Jamaat leader among three arrested in Narayanganj
Three people including the ameer of Jamaat-e-Islami's Narayanganj city unit, were arrested in connection with a case filed by police over the mayhem in the district during the Hafajat-enforced countrywide hartal on March 28.
The trio are Jamaat ameer Mainuddin Ahmed (75) and BNP and Hefajat activists Jonny and Aslam Islam respectively.
Police arrested them from their respective houses in Sadar upazila around 1:00am today, our Narayanganj correspondent reports quoting Officer-in-charge of Siddhirganj Police Station Moshiur Rahman.
They were produced before the court with a seven-day remand prayer in the afternoon, the OC said.
Their names were not mentioned in the case but police found evidence of their involvement with the violence and subversive activities carried out during March 28 hartal.
Soon after the attack and vandalism on Dhaka-Chattogram and Dhaka-Sylhet highways, police and Rapid Action Battalion filed six cases with the police station. Later, two more cases were filed.
So far, law enforcers arrested 35 people in connection with the cases.
