Attack on police: Case filed against 26 Hefajat activists in Bagerhat, 2 arrested
A case has been filed against 26 activists of Hefajat-e-Islam and some unknown people in connection with an attack on police at Mollahat in Bagerhat.
Abdullah Khandokar, a relative of Hefajat's Joint Secretary General Mamunul Haque, was made the prime accused in the case.
Mollahat Police Station Sub-inspector Mohammad Shahinur Rahman Goldar filed the case last night, our local correspondent reports.
Following the case, police last night arrested two people -- Rafin Sardar and Tran Mollah -- of Aruakandi village in Udaipur for their involvement in the incident.
Preparations are underway to produce the two arrestees before the court, said Mollahat Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Kazi Golam Kabir.
Police are continuing their efforts to identify and arrest the other accused, he added.
At least seven policemen, including the OC, were injured as activists of Hefajat-e-Islam, a Qawmi madrasa-based organisation, attacked them around 11:00am yesterday.
