Court accepts charges against Mufti Izharul
A Chittagong court yesterday took into cognisance the charge sheet against nine persons, including Hefajat-e Islam nayeb-e-ameer Mufti Izharul Islam Chowdhury, in a case filed in connection with an explosion in a madrasa.
Chittagong Metropolitan Sessions Court Judge SM Mojibur Rahman also fixed March 27 for the charge framing hearing.
The blast occurred in a room of a dormitory of Al Jamiatul Ulum Al Islamia Madrasa in the port city's Lalkhan Bazar on October 7, 2013, leaving three persons dead.
Izharul, also the madrasa's founding principal, got bail till March 24 while his son Harun Bin Izhar, the madrasa's deputy principal and another prime accused, and the seven others are under arrest.
Of the seven, Abdul Hai and Habibur Rahman are the madrasa's students, Md Ishak, Monir Hossain, Abdul Mannan and Tafsir Ahmed teachers and Mohammad Junayed an alleged bodyguard of Harun.
Khulshi Police Station Sub-inspector Md Lokman submitted the charge sheet on February 10.
Apart from the case under the explosive substances act, two others were filed with the police station, one under the acid control act and another of murder.
