Storm halts Syl-Dhaka-Ctg rail link for 7hrs
Train services of Sylhet with Dhaka and Chittagong remained suspended for seven hours as at least 35 trees fell on railway tracks during a nor’wester in Moulvibazar early today.
The trees, uprooted by the storm in the wee hours of the day, fell onto the rail tracks at Magurchhara and Lawachhara forest area under Kamalganj upazila of the district, reports our Moulvibazar correspondent.
Contacted, Md Nazmul Haque, assistant station manager at Srimangal Railway Station, told the correspondent, “Lashing by Nor’wester, trees fell onto the rail lines at different points of Sylhet-Dhaka and Sylhet-Chittagong rail lines. As a result rail links remained halted since 2:00am, causing immense sufferings to hundreds of passengers.”
The rail communications were restored around 9:00am after removal of the trees from rail tracks, he added.
