Now, quota reformists call strike
The platform campaigning for quota reform for the past couple of months has called strike across educational institutions over demands of safe roads and their three-point demand.
Their strike, to be observed for sine die starting from tomorrow, comes in conjunction with the ongoing agitation of school and college students demanding safe roads.
Yamin Mollah, joint convener of Shadharan Chhatra Odhikar Sangrakkhan Parishad (General Students’ Rights Preservation Forum), called the strike at a press conference held at Jatiya Press Club this afternoon.
A press release was distributed at the programme, signed by the platform’s convener Hasan Al Mamun, which called out to the government for accepting their demands and those of the movement demanding safe roads, and come up with a solution.
Dhaka has been rocking on protests and agitation – carried out by school and college students – since two of their fellows fell victim to reckless driving in the capital last Sunday.
Since then, several buses have been vandalised, some even torched, as protests continue to roll to today under patient observation of the government – largely.
The quota reformists, who are merging their agitation with those of these students, have been demonstrating for months now – demanding major reform to the quota system of the country’s government service sector.
