Youth held over killing student in Mymensingh

Police have detained a youth from Gazipur in connection with killing of a college student in Mymensingh.

Detainee Limon alias Rimon, 19, was a friend of Shakil, who was murdered on Tuesday, our correspondent reports quoting police.

On information, a police team detained Rimon from his brother-in-law’s house in Gazipur’s Sreepur around 5:00am today, said Khandakar Shaker Ahmed, officer-in-charge (OC) of Kotwali Police Station.

On Tuesday, Shakil, a higher secondary student of Mymensingh College, and his friend Rimon locked into an altercation over taking money from a man as extortion in the area, the OC said.

At one stage, Rimon stabbed Shakil, son of Nazmul Islam of Charpara Kopikhet in Mymensingh town, indiscriminately, leaving him critically injured, the official said.

Shakil was taken to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital from where he was referred to the capital’s Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College and Hospital where doctors declared him dead yesterday noon, OC Khandakar added.

The body was kept in Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College and Hospital for autopsy.
