Wife among four to die in B'baria
A court on Tuesday sentenced a woman and three of her associates to death for killing her husband in Nabinagar upazila in 2009.
The convicts are Kohinoor Begum, wife of Shahjahan Khan, then an expatriate in Saudi Arabia, Doha Mia, Golap Mia and Abul Khair of Jalsukha village in the upazila.
Judge SK Sultana Razia of Additional District and Sessions Judge's Court-2 handed down the verdict in presence of one of the convicts Abul Khair, while the rest three were tried in absentia.
The court acquitted two others, Moklesur Rahman and Al-Amin of the village, as the charges brought against them could not be proved.
According to the case statement, Shahjahan, a resident of Amtoli village, came to the country on November 13 in 2009.
A couple of days later, Shahjahan had an altercation with Kohinoor over a family feud allegedly centring her extra marital relationship with Doha.
Later, police recovered Shahjahan's throat-slit body from his bedroom on December 2.
Following a case filed by Shahjahan's father Barek Khan with Nabinagar Police Station the next day, police detained Kohinoor who confessed to her involvement in the murder and gave her confessional statement under section 164.
Later, Kohinoor secured bail from the High Court and went into hiding afterwards.
Din Islam, lawyer of the petitioner, said after such
a verdict no woman would dare to plan killing her husband.
