Verdict in 5 days: madrasa teacher gets life term for raping minor

A Kushtia court today sentenced a Qawmi madrasa teacher to life term imprisonment for raping a girl in Kushtia's Mirpur.

The court also fined the convict Tk 1 lakh and asked to give the money to the victim, a class eight student, reports our Kushtia correspondent.

Convict Abdul Quader was the superintendent of Sirajul Islam Darul Uloom Maryam Nesa Women's Madrasa at Poradaha.

Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal Judge Munshi Moshiur Rahman delivered the verdict in presence of the convict today, five days after the court started the trial in the case.

According to the prosecution, Abdul Quader called the resident student to his office room around 8:00am and raped her on October 3. He threatened her not to disclose the matter.

The girl told her friend about the incident when she fell sick on October 5. Later, her family came to know of the incident. 

The victim's father filed a case with Mirpur Police Station the same day, accusing the teacher.

Abdul Quader was on the run but police arrested him around 9:30pm on that day. He was sent to jail on October 6.

Evidence of rape was found following a medical test on the victim at Kushtia General Hospital on October 7.

Police submitted the charge sheet against Quader on October 13 and the court framed the charge on November 12.
