Two get life term for murder in Pirojpur
A court in Pirojpur today sentenced two people, including a woman, to life term imprisonment for killing a man in Sadar upazila in 2016.
The convicts are Mahbub Sarder, 42, of Jujkhola village in Pirojpur Sadar upazila, and Rahima Begum, 36, daughter of Sobed Ali Mollah in Kachua upazila of Bagerhat.
Md Mohiduzzaman, judge of Pirojpur Session Judge's court, pronounced the verdict in presence of Rahima. Mahbub is now on the run.
The court fined TK 20,000 each and also acquitted two other accused as the allegation brought against them could not be proved, reports our Pirojpur correspondent.
According to the prosecution, Nazrul Islam, 50, went to his fish enclosure in Uttar Poregola village on January 22, 2016 and did not return home.
Police recovered his decomposed body from a heap of straw on January 30, the same year.
The victim's wife filed a case with Pirojpur Sadar Police Station accusing unnamed persons.
Police detained Rahima, who later confessed her and Mahbub's involvement in the murder.
