Train derails, link halted for 2hrs
Rail communication between Rajshahi and the capital remained suspended for nearly two hours after the locomotive and a compartment of a train derailed in Panchbibi upazila of Joypurhat yesterday.
The communication resumed after the derailed locomotive and compartment were cleared off the railway track around 11:30am.
Railway officials in Joypurhat said the engine and a compartment of Rajshahi-bound Uttara Express train from Nilphamari was derailed soon after it entered Panchbibi Rail Station around 9:30am.
Later, the salvage train from Dinajpur's Parbatipur upazila went to the spot and cleared the derailed engine and compartment from the track after two hours of frantic effort, said Nasir Uddin, assistant transport officer of western railway zone at Pakshi.
A four-member probe body was formed to investigate the incident, he said.
