Rooppur Power Plant scam: HC rejects bail prayer of suspended engineer
The High Court today refused to grant bail to Md Mostafa Kamal, a suspended engineer of public works department, in three separate cases filed over corruption in purchasing furniture and household items for the officials of Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant in Pabna.
The court, however, issued three rules, asking the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) and government to explain in three weeks why Mostafa Kamal should not be granted bail in the cases.
The HC bench of Justice Md Nazrul Islam Talukder and Justice Ahmed Sohel came up with the rules following three bail petitions filed by Mostafa Kamal.
Lawyer Human Kabir Bulbul argued for Mostafa Kamal while lawyer Khurshid Alam Khan and Deputy Attorney General AKM Amin Uddin Manik represented the ACC and government respectively during virtual hearing on the bail petitions.
The ACC filed the cases with its Pabna district office against Mostafa Kamal and several others on December 12 last year on charges of irregularities involving Tk 26 crore in supplying furniture and household items to the officials of Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant.
