‘Rescue abducted indigenous schoolgirl’
Leaders of indigenous Koch community urged the authorities concerned to rescue a schoolgirl, abducted from Madhupur upazila on March 31, and demanded immediate arrest of the culprits involved in the kidnapping.
Members of Bangladesh Koch Adivasi Songgathan, central unit, came up with the call at a press conference at Tangail Press Club yesterday.
The organization's Chairman Romesh Kumar Koch said the 15-year-old victim, also a Class VII student at a local high school in Madhupur upazila, was abducted allegedly by one Abdul Mannan, 21, of Subkochna village, and his accomplices when she came out of her room to respond to the nature's call on March 31.
The following day, victim's father lodged a complaint with Madhupur Police Station accusing Mannan and four others, but police mysteriously recorded the case on April 4.
He said Mannan used to stalk the girl on her way to and from school for long.
About two months ago, the teenage girl lodged a written complaint with Madhupur PS, but no action was taken against the culprit then.
OC of Madhupur PS Tarek Kamal said they have arrested one of the five accused of the case.
