Prime accused arrested

Criminal Investigation Department (CID) on Wednesday night detained the key accused in the case for attempting to kill a Christian trader in Chatmohar upazila of the district on May 29.

The arrestee, Mohammad Badsha Mia, 40, is son of late Abed Ali of Nengri village in the upazila.

Officer-in-Charge Subrato Kumar of Chatmohar Police Station said a team of the law enforcer, acting on a tip-off, raided a tea shop in the capital's Agargaon area around 7:30pm on Wednesday and arrested Badsha from there.

The arrestee was later brought to Chatmohar Police Station the same night for quizzing, the OC added.

After quizzing, police produced Badsha before a Pabna court yesterday, seeking a five-day remand. The court fixed Sunday for hearing on the remand prayer.

On May 29 night, a gang of 4/5 people led by Badsha Mia hacked Ranjit Rosario, 30, a fertiliser dealer of Failzana Christian Community area in the upazila, with machetes, leaving him seriously injured.

Ranjit, son of George Rosario, who sustained injuries in his head and neck, took treatment at Pabna Medical College Hospital and was later release from the hospital about a week ago.
