Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader urged the authorities of the garment factories in Savar and Gazipur industrial areas to grant their workers Eid-ul-Azha leave in alternate phases for the sake of eased traffic.

The minister came up with the request while talking to journalists during his visit to the construction site of the Gazipur-Tangail four-lane highway at Bhogra in Gazipur today.

Terming it a challenging task to tackle the huge traffic pressure, especially on the highways, during the two festivals -- Eid-ul-Fitr and Eid-ul-Azha, Obaidul said the government has taken the decision for not allowing any cattle market on or near the highways and also asked for stopping the unfit vehicles carrying cattle from the very start of their journey.

High officials of Roads and Highways Department and police were also present while Minister Obaidul was talking to the reporters.
