Murder accused killed

Criminals killed a youth, who was also an accused in a murder case, in Gaibandha's Saddullahpur upazila yesterday.

The deceased was identified as Faruk Mondol, 33, son of Abdul Kuddus Mondol of Boubazar area.

Police said Faruk was accused in several cases including for a murder that took place five years ago.

Quoting locals, Officer in Charge (OC) of Sadullahpur Police Station Masud Rana said some unidentified criminals waylaid Faruk near Boubazar area around 1:00am yesterday, stabbed him indiscriminately with sharp weapons and fled the scene, leaving him critically injured.

Hearing his cry for help, locals rescued him in critical condition and admitted him to Rangpur Medical College Hospital.

But Faruk succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment there yesterday morning, OC said, adding that after the autopsy victim's body was handed over to his family members.

Meanwhile, soon after the killing police detained one of the murder suspects for interrogation, the OC further added.
